The Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) has recently been awarded a grant from the Welcome Trust, UK to conduct research on climate change following a proposal submitted by the project team.
The project, spanning three years, is titled “Building a Climate Cohort to Monitor Health Impacts of Climate Change in Ghana”. The project aims to investigate the impact of climate change on morbidity and mortality, leveraging the robust Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) in Kintampo, Dodowa, and Navrongo Health Research Centres. Furthermore, the study will also examine the impact of climate change on birth and child health outcomes through well characterized pregnancy cohort studies. Additionally, the project will examine public engagement in making climate change matter in the management of health risks.
Leading the investigative team at KHRC are Dr. Kwaku Poku Asante and Dr. Sulemana Watara Abubakari
