The trial management team of PRISMA, a large maternal and child cohort study being conducted by KHRC convened a meeting with stakeholders on February 24, 2023. The meeting was held to discuss the integration of PRISMA study activities into routine Antenatal Care (ANC) services that pregnant women receive
The study sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation aims to collect harmonized data across five countries in Asia and Africa on gaps in the services that women receive during pregnancy (ANC), delivery (IPC) and after delivery (PNC). The harmonized data will inform the development of innovative strategies to optimize pregnancy outcomes for mothers and their newborns.
At the meeting, the need for strengthened collaboration between the researchers and routine health service providers was reiterated. This is necessary to ensure that while undergoing study activities, pregnant women enrolled into PRISMA do not miss their regular ANC visit, to ensure continuum of care. Mutual decisions were taken to aid in the study’s future operational activities.
In attendance were the Kintampo North Municipal Director of Health services, the Medical Superintendent of Kintampo Municipal hospital, and Public Health nurses from Kintampo North Municipality and South District Health Directorates. In addition were various cadre of health staff involved in the provision of ANC, IPC and PNC services within the Kintampo Municipal Health Directorate and Kintampo South District Health Directorate.
