Pregnancy Risk, Infant Surveillance, and Measurement Alliance (PRISMA) study is a multi-country population based maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) study involving five countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South East Asia: Ghana, Kenya, Zambia, Pakistan and India. The aim of the study is to develop a harmonized data set to improve our understanding of pregnancy risk factors, vulnerabilities, and morbidity and mortality and to estimate the burden of these risk factors and outcomes in Low and Middle-Income Countries.
In Ghana the study is carried out in several communities in the Kintampo North Municipality and Kintampo South district. KHRC has deployed fieldworkers to the communities to recruit pregnant women into the study, encourage them to attend antenatal clinics regularly and deliver at health facilities as well as perform follow up activities with midwives.
Periodically, the study team invites midwives who provide routine care to the pregnant women in the study communities for sensitization workshops. These workshops are aimed at updating them about study activities, have their inputs and discuss ways of working together to support study participants during pregnancy and delivery. The recent sensitization workshop for 2023 was organized on Wednesday, 25th October 2023.
The workshop brought together midwives and nurses from both government and private health facilities in the communities where the study is carried out to dialogue about study activities, challenges and recommendations to improve study activities. The health workers were excited about their involvement in the regular discussion of study activities and pledged their continued support for the study.
