World Malaria Day is marked on April 25 every year to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment for malaria prevention and control. World Malaria Day 2023 was marked under the theme “Time to deliver zero malaria: invest, innovate, implement”.
To commemorate World Malaria Day 2023, the Kintampo Health Research Centre held a radio discussion on GBC Kintampo radio to educate the communities about the impact of malaria and KHRC’s role in eradicating malaria. The discussion was led by Dr. Seyram Kaali, Clinical Research Fellow and Ms Emmanuella Arthur, Communication Officer.
During the radio discussion, Dr. Kaali spoke on the prevalence of malaria in Ghana, the various efforts made over the years to combat it and the need to implement measures to eliminate malaria completely in Ghana and globally. He urged the public to take necessary actions to prevent malaria, such as draining stagnant water, sleeping under insecticide-treated nets, keeping their surroundings clean, and seeking a diagnosis before treatment.
Additionally, Dr. Kaali highlighted KHRC's critical role in malaria elimination, including its contribution to the development of the RTS,S vaccine, which has played a significant role in reducing malaria.
On her part, Ms Arthur emphasized on the need to invest, innovate and implement effective solutions to end malaria as reflected in this year’s theme for the celebration. She called for sustained investment in research and tools to control malaria
