KHRC Organises BreastCancer Education and Screening for Staff

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In accordance with this, the Kintampo Health Research Centre on October 14, 2022 organised a breast cancer screening and education for staff. The education session took place at the KHRC Conference Hall.


Speaking at the education session, Ms. Ernestina Werekuu, a Public Health Officer urged staff to maintain a healthy weight, engage in physical activities, eat healthy and nutritious foods and ultimately, get screened to lower the risk of getting breast cancer.

She noted that early detection save lives and that, there is the need for all staff to create awareness on breast cancer.


Ms. Betina Nsamba, a Midwife took staff through the breast self-examination procedures. She entreated them to conduct a monthly self-examination and report unusual observations to the hospital.

Staff were educated on topics including; risk factors associated with breast cancer, signs and symptoms, common tests conducted for breast cancer, treatment, factors that can lower incidence of breast cancer and myths and misconceptions associated with breast cancer.

A breast cancer screening was also held at the KHRC gym centre for all staff.
