Ms Hannah Grillmaier, a master's student of the Charité – University of Medicine, Berlin has been at the Kintampo Health Research Centre as part of her seven months (November 2022 – May 2023) research internship requirement for completing a programme in International Health.

During her stay at KHRC she developed comprehensive review skills and enhanced her interview skills with the guidance of the staff. She got the opportunity of going through the rigorous processes of developing a scientific protocol, getting the requisite approvals and collecting both quantitative and qualitative data. She also got the chance to work on the analysis and presented the preliminary findings at KHRC’s Scientific Technical Meeting.

She expressed gratitude towards staff for their unwavering support, generosity, and hospitality throughout her journey. Specifically, she acknowledged the invaluable assistance of her co-authors and supervisors, Mr. Solomon Nyame, Dr. Kenneth A. Ae-Ngibise, and Dr. Kwaku Poku Asante in their guidance and facilitating her research activities at the Centre.

As a way of showing appreciation for the immense support, Hannah made a generous donation to the Centre’s gym. The items presented included resistance bands, among others. According to Ms Grillmaier, the motive for the donation stemmed from her personal experience and the positive impact the gym had on her physical well-being during her internship. She added that she recognized the invaluable role the gym played in providing her with an avenue to exercise and prioritize self-care. Grateful for the Center's efforts in establishing and maintaining the facility, Ms Grillmaier felt the need to contribute to the fitness culture at KHRC.

“Sometimes we concern ourselves with health that we neglect our own health. It is so great that the KHRC encourages its employees to take care of themselves and of each other and I wanted support that in whatever way I could because I profited from it”, she added.

Receiving the items, the chairman of the Gym committee at KHRC, Dr. David Dosoo expressed sincere appreciation for Ms Grillmaier’s thoughtful gesture. He commended her for recognizing the importance of giving back to the institution and mentioned that the items will be presented at the next KHRC Management meeting.

Ms Grillmaier added that she had a positive experience at KHRC and would encourage others to consider collaborating with the Centre.
