The primary goal of this study is to measure the overall and product-specific COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (CVE) against laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 in hospitalized SARI patients.
The study leverages on National Influenza surveillance and works closely with the focal persons stationed at various hospitals. These focal persons play a pivotal role in identifying and enrolling patients with acute respiratory infections upon admission. Additionally, they collect respiratory and blood samples to test for COVID-19 and antibodies, following proper consent procedures. A one-day refresher training was therefore conducted on July 27, 2023 for these focal persons at the KHRC Conference Hall to enhance their capabilities.
The study, which initially involved 21 SARI sites, has been expanded to encompass an additional 16 SARI sites sourced from Ghana Health Service and Ghana Armed Forces Health facilities, thus ensuring nationwide coverage.
