Khrc Organises Clinical Trials Sensitization Workshop For Health Professionals

The Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC), in collaboration with the Bono East Regional Directotate is organizing a series of workshops to sensitize health professionals in the Bono East region about clinical trials.


This capacity building programme is supported by the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). The programme is led by Mr. Japhet Anim, as part of re-integration activities after receiving training at the European Vaccine Initiative (EVI) as a Clinical Research and Product Development Fellow.


Addressing the participants, Dr. Kwaku Poku Asante, Director of the Kintampo Health Research Centre stressed the importance of clinical trials as a means to discover new and improved interventions to address our public health challenges.




Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, the Bono East Regional Director of Health Services, emphasized that the double burden of disease in developing countries calls for need to conduct clinical research in order to identify cost-effective and novel treatment in especially African countries


Mr. Japhet Anim highlighted the efforts being made to promote and advance good quality clinical research in Africa in order to maintain gains made in reducing disease burden and close the significant remaining gap.




Participants admitted that the workshop has been beneficial to them. Mr. Prosper, a health professional, said “ the programme has been informative. We know something about clinical trials but this has been refreshing and has added additional information to what we already know. Our expectations have been met”.


The participants expressed their profound gratitude to the centre for the insightful workshop.


Topics presented included introduction to clinical trials, disease burden in low-and middle-income countries, informed consent process, regulatory and ethical oversight, among others.


Other facilitators at the workshop included Dr. Samuel Harrison, Mr. Fred Kanyoke, Dr. Prince Agyapong, Mr. Elisha Adeniji and Mr. Elvis Wilson, Mr. Owusu Boahen and Dr. Seyram Kaali.
