The Combating Household Air Pollution (CHAP) team encompassing the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC), Columbia University and University of California supported by the Columbia World Projects (CWP), this year successfully organized another stakeholders' workshop involving more stakeholders to discuss CWP phase II study activities and especially, how digital technologies and delivery services (GasPay) could be used to facilitate quicker transitions to clean energy use in Ghana.
GasPay is a mobile money platform where LPG users could make little contributions in the form of "SUSU", purposely for LPG refills. This innovation is expected to be a game-changer in the transition to clean energy use in Ghana as it aims at solving the liquidity gap that encourages households to continue to use dirty fuel such as charcoal although the cumulative expenditure over time is not significantly different from that of LPG.
The participants were mainly representatives from key stakeholders including the Research and Development Division of the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Energy, National Petroleum Authority, The World Bank, Rancard, Environmental Protection Agency, School of Public Health – University of Ghana, Ghana Statistical Service, Ghana Alliance for Clean Cooking, and CWP funders.
