In a remarkable celebration of scientific brilliance, Ms Dorcas Atibilla, a Biomedical Scientist and Medical Entomologist at KHRC, has emerged as one of the distinguished recipients of the 2023 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents in Sub-Saharan Africa. This prestigious award, now in its 14th edition, is a testament to Atibilla's exceptional contributions to scientific research and her dedication to advancing knowledge in her field.



The L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents Sub-Saharan Africa Awards, an annual event, seeks to recognize and support the outstanding achievements of African women scientists. This year, the spotlight shines on 25 PhD candidates and 5 post-doctoral researchers who were honored at the awards ceremony hosted in Kasane, Botswana, on the 9th of November. The laureates were chosen for their scientific excellence from a pool of 632 applicants.



The awards ceremony not only celebrates the individual achievements of these remarkable women but also underscores the critical role that women play in the scientific community. By showcasing their contributions, the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents Sub-Saharan Africa Awards aim to inspire and empower women scientists to pursue their career.



Established in 2000, the L'Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents Sub-Saharan Africa Programme has become a beacon of support for aspiring women scientists. Annually, the program provides over 250 grants in more than 110 countries, empowering women to pursue their scientific careers and advocating for the broader recognition of the indispensable role women play in advancing scientific knowledge.
